Storage for eternity
Storing data cost-effectively and sustainably over long periods is one of the great challenges of our time. The start-up Cerabyte has developed a new technology, relying on an ancient medium: ceramic tablets. EuroCC Austria is supporting the team in bringing its system to market as a sustainable alternative to hard drives.
Full data control: Local AI tool for audio transcription
Some types of research data, such as interview recordings, are too sensitive for public clouds but still need to be processed with state‑of‑the‑art AI. By running an AI-based transcription tool on the LEO5 high-performance computing system, the University of Innsbruck achieves fast, scalable speech-to-text processing and data sovereignty.

"Using ACA's computing power allowed us to optimise our workload. Having multiple GPUs meant we could parallelise tasks, which significantly sped up training. The large memory also meant we could load the entire dataset at once – avoiding the need to split it into smaller chunks, which had been very time-consuming on less capable hardware.

What's my benefit if I work with ACA?
You gain a neutral, nationally mandated partner who understands both HPC technology and industrial constraints. You get a clear view of what is technically feasible, what it would change for your workflows and whether it is worth it for your specific workloads.
How much effort is it for my team to adopt to european HPC systems?
If your team already works with established simulation codes, Python or C++, the main steps are learning how to prepare jobs for the scheduler, understanding the file systems and applying basic optimisation techniques. We offer dedicated training courses that cover exactly these topics in a hands‑on way. You can find the current programme here.
How much do your HPC workshops cost?
Our HPC workshops take place online, and many of them are funded by the EU as part of the EuroCC initiative so there is no cost to participants. Whether a specific course is included is stated in the course description under “Prices and eligibility”.
How do you deal with our data and architecture?
We only work with European and national infrastructures that have clear governance and security processes. You decide which data sets are moved, for which purpose and for how long they are stored. The goal is that you retain control over your data, architecture and costs at every stage.
How much does working on your HPC systems cost?
We use a simple pay‑as‑you‑go model. You do not pay flat subscription fees or long‑term licences – you only pay for the compute capacity you actually use, measured in node or GPU hours. This makes it easy to scale up for peak workloads without buying hardware that then sits idle. For detailed rates you'll find a link to our current price list here.
What is a realistic first step if I am interested but not sure yet?
A realistic first step is a technical conversation with one of our HPC experts. You can use the contact form to get in touch. After the talk you can decide whether you want to start with a focused proof of concept. Together we choose a representative use case and define clear success criteria (for example runtime, model size, throughput and cost). We then help you obtain access to a suitable European supercomputer and you run your jobs on it, with our team available for support whenever you need it.
The EuroCC initiative
EuroCC is the European network of national competence centres for high‑performance computing (HPC) and high‑performance data analytics (HPDA). Each country runs a centre that collects and coordinates expertise, services and training so that organisations can use HPC more effectively.
ACA ist the Austrian node in this network, operated by TU Wien, the University of Vienna and the HPC Austria association. It connects industry, research and the public sector in Austria with European supercomputing resources and the experts needed to make real use of them.
